Triumph for UTC graduate Tom Laperche, on the trimaran Ultim SVR-Lazartigue

During the night, November 5 to 6, 2025, Franck Cammas and Tom Laperche won the Transat Café L’Or (formerly the Transat Jacques-Vabre Trophy) in the category “Ultim”.
The two skippers crossed the Atlantic from Le Havre in 10 days, 13 hours and 3 minutes! The two sailors mastered the challenge from start to finish and gave their sponsor SVR-Lazartigue its first major victory, which it had been vying since 2021. At the helm of this optimised and sophisticated multihull boat, 28-year-old Tom Laperche once again and with panache proved that he is one of the leading sailors. Crowned Open Bic world champion, a competition on small dinghies, at the age of 11, Tom made his first Atlantic crossing at the age of 13, accompanied by his father Philippe.
A graduate from UTC, majoring in mechanical engineering, this top-level sailing athlete joined the SVR-Lazartigue Trimaran programme almost from its inception. He was able to follow at UITCV-Compiegne the elite sports programme, which allowed him to arrange his schedule so that he could continue sailing during his studies.
On November 7, 2021, just three months after its launch, François Gabart, another renowned sailor, set off on the Transat Jacques Vabre alongside this talented co-skipper. After more than sixteen days of racing and a fierce battle, the two professionals finally achieved the feat of taking second place in this historic transatlantic race. ‘Yes, we came second, so we weren’t far off being victorious,’ admits Tom Laperche, who says he is now ‘very happy’ and ‘filled with of emotion’ after this great victory in the Transat Café L’Or.
He will now focus on 2026, continuing to improve and develop the boat, the main objective being the Route du Rhum Race (from Saint Malo to Guadeloupe), which will take place in November 2026.
